Bios   by Robert Charles Wilson

Well this is different! A science team visit a planet whose biosphere is so evolved that only indigenous microbes/viruses/flora/fauna can hope to survive. Exposed humans just get their immune systems smashed, drop dead in an instant and are decomposed to crumbly compost within hours.

First the team start to realize that their protective suits are not so protective, and eventually one by one they succumb to the planet...

The book's short, simple and sweet. It's well written, well paced, very inventive, and the ending, although an unsurprising anticlimax, is unexpected and finishes the book off completely (I hope he doesn't write any sequels).
